Research interests

The apoptosis of photoreceptor cells or RPE dysfunction is the major pathological change leading to a wide range of retinal degenerative diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP), which are the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Unfortunately, there is still no radical treatment to alleviate the progression or recover the lost vision associated with these diseases.  In term of the disease etiology, his long-term research goal is to discover the disease mechanisms of RP and then transplant bio-degradable scaffolds planting with normal retinal cells derived from induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
